Job Description from Civil Service Jobs

The Office for Life Sciences (OLS) is a directorate working within government and with external stakeholders to deliver the Government’s Life Sciences Vision, published in July 2021. Through this, we aim to ensure that the UK is one of the best places in the world for life sciences companies to grow, creating economic opportunity and jobs across the country, and delivering health benefits for the UK population. As a joint unit between the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology and the Department for Health and Social Care, we are uniquely placed to bridge the gap between the private sector, government and the NHS, to support, grow and maintain the life sciences sector. We are a friendly, welcoming, and inclusive directorate and accommodate reasonable adjustments to meet the diverse needs of individual staff members. OLS has a range of friendly and engaging staff workstreams including Equity, Diversity and Inclusion; Health, Wellbeing and Fun; Learning and Development; and Culture and Volunteering; each of which has a senior leadership team champion. We welcome applicants from all walks of life and believe a range of backgrounds and experiences within a workforce creates a better working environment, and produces better policy for the people of the UK. The Role The successful candidate will join the Investment and Engagement
Team (IET) within the Office for Life Sciences. IET’s goal is to protect and grow the UK’s life sciences sector and drive inward investment. We do this by:

Curating a pipeline of potential investments, leading investment strategy and identifying growth opportunities.
Building intelligence of the sector’s needs, including through strategic relationship management with key companies.
Supporting the negotiation and delivery live investment opportunities, including overseeing bespoke collaborations.
Working in a team of Sector Experts who provide industry, commercial and clinical advice to the Office for Life Sciences, the Market Analyst will provide ongoing analysis of the performance of strategic priority companies operating within the life sciences sector, identifying risks to future performance and opportunities for government support or intervention. They also provide analysis of company restructurings and market developments such as M&A activity, supplying commentary on the likely effects on manufacturing footprint, jobs and investor sentiment. This role will encompass coverage of key companies across the Pharma and Life Sciences sectors, both listed and unlisted, to help to inform conversations between OLS officials or ministers and businesses. They will also support colleagues in OLS with the development and execution of policies and investment strategies, by providing insight into corporate strategies and investment decisions. The successful candidate is expected to build and maintain their network of contacts from the private sector to help to deliver insight to policymakers. This will include representing Government at conferences, events and in one-to-one meetings with companies and investors.
